The smiles on the fifth graders faces, as they paraded around the gym with floats they’d created to tell the American story, said it all. Pride, accomplishment and pure fun.
The 25th Annual Katonah Elementary School 5th Grade Day Before Thanksgiving Day Parade honors pivotal events in the American story--from Christopher Columbus, the Mayflower, and Pocahontas to the Great Depression, the Civil Rights Act, and Space Exploration to the Freedom Tower, the Internet and AI.


Students worked alone and in small groups to research a specific person, moment or turning point. Today was the first and only day that they would see each other’s work and participate in a procession that spanned more than 500 years.
The KES tradition is both 25 years old, and one that is new each year!
